Rosie Riordan
My name is Rosie Riordan and I have been teaching in Kansas since 1982. I currently teach at Shawnee Mission West High School where I am the Department chair, NAHS sponsor, and AP instructor. I have been at West for 4 years. Prior to that I taught at the elementary level for 17 years and also was the district art supervisor for 6 years. I have taught at all levels from preschool to college level currently teaching as an adjunct for 2 area colleges. I love working with students and can't believe how lucky I am to be doing what I am doing. I have served in many capacities for my state organizations from membership chair, commercial liaison, elementary division director to president. After 20m years on our board I am stepping off for a while to give others the chance to lead. I served as Western Region Elementary Division Director and then as National Elementary Division Director. I encourage each of you to get involved at your state, regional and national level. Its an opportunity to meet and work with the best people. I have won numerous awards at the state level and just received this past spring the Western Region Art Educator of the Year. It was a wonderful to celebrate with my colleagues but the best part of the award was the support of my Kansas colleagues who made it possible for me to go the the conference when my district was unwilling to support me. These people are he best and why everyone should make it a point to get involved.
